Performance Max vs Advantage+
Both replace targeting, bidding, placement, and creative assembly with the platform's automation, and both work best when fed clean conversion data, strong creative, and enough budget to learn. Performance Max spans every Google surface from one campaign and is the more opaque of the two; Advantage+ operates within Meta's feeds and has gradually opened more controls. Neither should be judged on platform-reported ROAS alone, since both lean on brand search and retargeting-like behavior, and both deserve an incrementality test before they absorb the whole budget.
| Performance Max | Advantage+ | |

| Best for | Ecommerce with feeds; lead gen with offline conversion import | Ecommerce with catalogs and high creative volume; app promotion |
| Watch for | Brand search absorption; final URL expansion; conflicts with Search campaigns | Audience overlap with manual campaigns; creative fatigue; learning resets |
