A beauty brand gets shelf space when a buyer at Sephora or Ulta believes the demand already exists. When we helped launch Dr. Jart+ in the US, the campaign that decided the launch ran before there was anything to buy, in search boxes and social feeds, building the branded search volume and creator heat a retail buyer could check for themselves. Amorepacific, Bumble and bumble, Dr. Jart+, L'Oréal, Saturday Skin, and SkinMedica are among the beauty clients on this site.

Creators are a media budget, and I buy them like one. Usage rights get agreed before the content exists, the strongest posts get paid amplification on the creator's own handle, and every post has one job the plan reports on. User-generated content works until every feed looks like a testimonial, so the creative plan rotates formats before fatigue shows up in the cost per sale.

Retail media takes a growing share of beauty budgets, and it gets bought as the tax it is. Sponsored listings are negotiated against incremental sales the retailer can show, and brand search, the brand's own site, and the retailer's pages are planned as one path to the same purchase so the same shopper is not paid for twice.

Ingredient rules are reaching the media plan as well. States are banning intentionally added PFAS in cosmetics, and any claim about what a product leaves out has to hold up. The PFAS Regulations Register tracks those bans state by state, with effective dates.

An engagement usually begins with the launch calendar or the retailer review date, working back to what a buyer will need to see and when the media has to start for it to be there.

Quick answers

Launch timing

When should a beauty brand start advertising before a retail launch?

Early enough that branded search and social demand are visible when the retail buyer reviews the line. That usually means months ahead of the shelf date, with search, social, and creator work running before there is anything to buy. Launch week then adds sales to demand that already exists.

Creators

How should beauty brands buy creator partnerships?

Like media. Usage rights are agreed before the content is made, the strongest posts get paid amplification on the creator's own handle, and each partnership is judged on the job it was given. Every post carries the disclosure the FTC Endorsement Guides require.

Retail media

Is retail media worth it for beauty brands?

Often, at the right price. Sponsored listings sit next to the purchase, and they also collect sales the brand would have made anyway, so the plan negotiates rates and asks each retailer for incremental results. Brand search and the brand's own site are planned alongside, so the same shopper is not bought twice.
